Green Acres 4 H Club Awards!
Green Acres won a Non-Traditional Grant in 2019 from the Missouri Department of Agriculture. The 4H club launched its "Go Green in 2019" Campaign. This was a matching funds grant of $ 6,700.00. The Grant was used to purchase two large commercial refrigerators, food dehydrators, commercial sink, vacuum and packing for food storage. As part of the Healthy Habits program, students learned about the importance and health benefits of Aquaponics and Urban Farming Food production.
The refrigerators helped to store fresh food and the sinks were used to clean leafy greens and vegetables after the harvest.
The second refrigerator is now being used in the High School to help support the food pantry. Now families at East High School will have free access to healthy and nutrient-rich produce all year round because of the efforts of the Green Acres Urban Farm and Research Project 4H Club. We would like to thank all of our sponsors KCP&L, City of Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City Public Schools, 4H Clubs and many other students and teachers at East High School Agriculture program.
The Second Award comes from Jackson County as the Family Farm of the Year in 2019- This award will be given out in August 2019
On top of the awards, we have received a special visit from LT. Governor Mike Kehoe and his staff and family on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019.
